Well, if a character prays for a miracle, there's some religious aspect. But that isn't necessarily the same person with the disability, who might or might not be religious and might or might not welcome such attention. So that could lead to a family argument. Or the character might simply shrug and disbelieve the whole shebang, and go deal with some other aspect of the situation, leaving the religious character going, "Wait, what?"

... while discussing such an occurrence with someone I know who had experienced it. Yes, the effect of miracles varies a lot. As with other highly variable phenomena, I call it good if a writer can find at least one decent reference or example supporting the version they want to use. There isn't necessarily a "right answer" here although there may be some wrong ones to avoid.
